EUTERPE MUSICAL SYMBOLS FONT Version 1.1 - July 14, 2008

Hi,

Thank you for downloading this font.

This project started in 2006 as a way to do something useful in my spare time. As DejaVu Fonts developer I wanted to do something completely different once in the open font design "business", so I came up with the idea of making a font for the musical symbols Unicode block.

Now, finally all Unicode code points are covered. The font is far from finished though, as there are plenty of variants for some glyphs, like notes with the stem pointing down to name one, or numerous other musical symbols to be discovered somewhere. But that'll be for another release.

Version 1.1 is alost the same as version 1.0, except for a few fixes and the addition of the multiple rest symbol to its proper spot U+1D129 to make it up to date with Unicode 5.1.

Notes:

* The Unicode musical symbols block can be found at the code points U+1D100..U+1D1FF in Plane 1. Some older software may not be able to handle glyphs in that range.

* Some extra glyphs can be found in the Private Use Area (U+E000..), some of them may be accessed through OpenType features, like ligatures and glyph substitions.

* The ornament strokes (U+1D19B..U+1D1A5) will only display correctly if you have kerning and the OT feature "ccmp" enabled.

* To display the dynamics "pp", "mf", "sfz", etc. correctly, you'll need to have ligatures enabled (or directly select them in the Private Use Area, but such usage is not encouraged).

* The Unicode symbols are for use in texts to be used as symbols. It's not for scores, so don't expect to be able to write full scores with this font by just magically entering some keys. The sample image was created with a lot of cut-and-paste work.

* The sample image probably hasn't anything sensible in there, it's just a showcase :-) If you can make one that makes sense, be my guest.

* In Greek mythology, Euterpe is the muse of lyric poetry.
